What made you choose a lifestyle that involves fitness?

I like things where you can tangibly measure progress. In fitness, that can mean physical appearance, or by weights, reps and times. And with CrossFit especially, it gives me an outlet to feed my competitive side.

I also have a certain milestone birthday in May, so I gotta stay young. Also, beach season.

What is your favorite food to eat when you decide to go "all-out"?

The best thing in the world to eat is obviously steamed blue crabs from the Chesapeake seasoned with Old Bay. But if by "all-out" you mean something particularly unhealthy and indulging, I would start with a chicken biscuit from Pies 'n' Thighs, have a Bee Sting pizza from Roberta's, a cheeseburger with egg and crispy bacon from Au Cheval, pancakes from LIC Market, and finish with a Dunwell doughnut and a super hoppy IPA.

What is it about ICE that makes you keep coming back?

It's definitely NOT the fact Allison sometimes streams some kind of baby-making Pandora playlist into the men's locker room while we're standing around in nothing but towels at 8:45 a.m.

I like is the variety of classes. So if I see that CJ is coaching CrossFit, I can take an assault-bike class instead. (Kidding – CJ is actually the reason I found ICE. (Or did it find me?) Love that guy.) Or when I wake up on Saturday feeling like I'll never again touch my toes, I can take Gabby's awesome mobility class, which you should also take because we may or may not be starting an after-mobility-class brunch group.

I also like getting to work with so many different coaches in the same week.

Who is your biggest inspiration in life?

Big fan of Jesus. He inspires me every day.

Also, my mom is pretty great. She has had MS for almost 20 years, yet still manages to be very upbeat and encouraging. Especially when she sends me texts with 300 emojis. Plus she just did her first Whole30 and lost a bunch of weight, so I'm proud of her.

If you were forced to live on a remote island for the rest of time with one item (food and water are provided), what would it be and why?

For the rest of time? Am I immortal? I guess I would bring a solar-powered e-reader pre-loaded with every book ever published. Because I like to learn and apparently I'm going to be there a while.

Is this island that Jumby Bay place where we just opened a new box? That would be great. Can Allison make my smoothies but NOT have DJ privileges? [Don’t know what Brad is talking about when he says “Jumby Bay”? Check out Jumby Bay: The Ultimate Wellness Retreat]

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started Crossfit in October.

Did you registered in the Open?

I did not registered for the Open, because I was training be run the Paris Marathon on April 9th, so I wouldn't be able to complete all the WODs.

Do you have any weird/rare talents?

My hidden talent is that I can spin a basketball on my finger, throw it up in the air and catch it on my finger. (I wanted to be a Harlem Globetrotter when I was a kid). My weird talent would be that anyone that sees me at 8 am knows that I sit on the ground funny and can't sit criss-cross applesauce.

What is your favorite season and why?

My favorite season is summer, because I love to be outside and at the beach.

When you are feeling uninspired, where do you find your motivation? What get's you going?

I think about how fortunate I am. I am happy, healthy, and I may be tired, but I should keep going. One of the most inspiring events was when I ran the Boston Marathon last year and when I got to mile 25, I ran past a woman who had lost her both her legs in the Boston bombing. If she could motivate herself to run to mile 25, so could I and I refused to walk the rest of the race.

What made you choose a lifestyle that involves fitness?

I just moved to NYC from MN:) Currently I am doing my postdoc training in Rockefeller University. Work is long and stressful, but ICE is home :). I have been active since high school. Gym/fitness is a big part of my life and I like to find something challenging and force myself to learn more about my body. Other than CrossFit, I am an ultrarunner. Increasing my fitness level gives me the chance to experience different activities, explore the world in a different way and meet new people with the same life style. Self-confidence is the best part. I thought I could do anything after 17.1:)  Love to be called crazy.

What is your favorite food to eat when you decide to go "all-out"?

Cheeseburger with fries and beer... OH! and cheesecake and ice cream with wine! That only happens after a marathon.

What is it about ICE NYC that makes you keep coming back?

I spend 2 hours there everyday. All the elements of this gym are perfect! ICE NYC attracts the most energetic, dedicated, fun group of people to work out together. I am inspired and supported by my family there all the time. The trainers are the best and are serious about your form. I always hear Ian "scream" my name at the back of the room to pay attention on my back/butt...Izzy and everyone at the front desk takes such great care of us. Lastly, the training program is designed perfectly. It pushes me to my limited but not beyond my breaking point.

Who is your biggest inspiration in life?

I cannot name a single person. I am inspired by anyone who is working hard to chase their dream.

If you were forced to live on a remote island for the rest of time with one item (food and water are provided), what would it be and why?

Rope. This way I could climb some trees/rocks and get a better view of the island (I learned rock climbing for this purpose). I  would also make myself hammocks with my spare time:)
